First National Comedy Festival kicks off in Hạ Long

The first National Comedy Festival for northern provinces officially kicked off on August 25 at the Palace of Việt Nam-Japan Culture in Hạ Long city by the Việt Nam Stage Artists Association in cooperation with the Quảng Ninh Department of Culture Sports and Tourism.

The event attracts nearly 700 comedians from 22 professional troupes of drama, cai luong (Reformed Theatre), cheo (Traditional operetta), tuong (Classical drama) and circus.

The Organising Board will select the best works for the “Comedy Gala” night held on August 31st with participation of famous artists including Meritorious Artist Hồng Vân, Hoài Linh, Xuân Bắc, Tự Long, etc.

Besides, some outstanding performances will be selected for later  event to mark the Việt Nam Stage Day in Hà Nội on September 7th.

The first National Comedy Festival for northern provinces will last until September 1st.

According to the organising board, the first National Comedy Festival for southern provinces is expected to be held in November, 2011 in Ho Chi Minh City./.

First comedy festival to be held in Quảng Ninh

Comedy troupes nationwide will have an opportunity to take part in a comedy festival this month.

Lots of famous performers around the nation will gather at the festival such as Xuân Bắc, Tự Long, Chí Trung, Quang Thắng, Quốc Trượng, Vân Dung, Hồng Vân, Anh Vũ, Hoài Linh, Thúy Nga, Việt Hương, etc. Those performers judged the most creative will receive medals.

According to the Việt Nam Stage Artists Association, troupes in the northern area will perform on stage in Hạ Long city, Quảng Ninh province from August 25 to September 1 while southern groups will perform in November.

“We chose Quảng Ninh because the province attracts thousands of tourists and local people have great interest in arts performances,” association president Lê Tiến Thọ said.

Up to now, 22 northern troupes have already registered for the festival to be organized in Quảng Ninh, according to the deputy head of the organizing committee Trần Nhượng./.

Yên Tử Festival Around Halong Bay – Vietnam

Yên Tử Festival commences annually on the 10th day of the first lunar month and lasts three months. Tens of thousands of pilgrims begin their journey after a solemn ritual held at the base of Yên Tử Mountain. After the three-hour trekking along winding path, going through forests of pines or bamboos, tourists reach the Bronze Pagoda atop the mountain. Upon getting up there all visitors feel like entering Nirvana.

The complex of historical sites and beauty spots in Yên Tử features various pagodas, shrines or stupas now appearing now disappearing under the thick foliage of the primary show their belief, or doing away with all sorrow and sadness. Others go to Yên Tử to do sightseeing and to enjoy the pure atmosphere of a mountain region. Foreign visitors come to Yên Tử to witness a famous beauty spot, a mysterious tourist attraction.

Anyone who makes all the way to the Bronze Pagoda feels the magnificence of Yên Tử and forests. Atop Yên Tử Mountain, one feels like standing by the Heave Gate shrouded in white cloud. On clear days one can have a partial view of the northeastern region.

During the festival the people near and far flock to Yên Tử. Some pilgrims go to Yên Tử to know the reasons why our ancestors chose to lead a religious life in Yên Tử./.

Trà Cổ Festival 2011 held in Móng Cái city

The 14th Trà Cổ Festival was organized from June 30 to July 6 (or from the 30th day of the fifth lunar month until the sixth day of the sixth lunar month) in Móng Cái city.

The procession of the King to the sea

Trà Cổ Communal House was built nearly 600 years ago to commemorate the tutelar genies of the village. The festival held every year also aims at memorizing the merit of the tutelary genies of the village and prays good lucks to villagers.

This year’s festival included a wide range of traditional and attractive activities. The festivities began with the procession of the King to the sea accompanied by an armed troop, an orchestra, a strong and young man chosen by the village people holding the flag and carrying palanquin.

After the ritual procession, there were agricultural contests, such as a pig-breeding competition. The animals receive intensive care many months before from their masters in hopes of getting the first prize.

A cooking contest was held from June 3-5. After the contest, the best cooks acquired fame throughout the village.

The festivities ended on June 6 with a flower dance. In this rituals, the people prayed to the genies to allow them to catch more fish, to have good lucks to their trading activities and to have prosperous lives./.

Sparkling “Hạ Long by night”

A laser, sound and water performance titled “Hạ Long by night” was held for the first time on May 2, 2011 in Cột 3 area, Hạ Long city.

The 90-minute performance included four chapters namely the legend of descending dragon, developing Hạ Long – growing Quảng Ninh, the natural wonder of Hạ Long and colorful Quảng Ninh – Hạ Long.

The magic legend of Hạ Long bay as well as the site’s process of development into a tourist attraction were presented via a laser, sound and water performance combining with a sparkling aerial firework show.

Together with twinkling laser effects, many songs about love and the beauty of Hạ Long and joyful dances were performed by many Vietnamese famous singers and some arts delegations from China.

The show is regarded as a special “party” of light and color which left a really deep and lasting impression on thousands of tourists and locals.

Tens of thousands of tourists have flocked to Carnival Ha Long 2011 to enjoy the festive atmosphere

At this year’s festival themed The Ha Long Sparkling with Colors, foreign tourists joined local people to dance and sing in the celebrations at the foot of Bai Chay Bridge.

At last night’s opening ceremony, in addition to the dazzling firework, music and poetry night on Ha Long were extravagant processions namely “World Heritage”, “Sea Island Economy”, and “Spiritual Culture and Festivities” led by beautiful dancers amid enthusiastic applause from a huge number of visitors.

The festival was attended by foreign art troupes and around 100 local officials in the province as an evidence of international solidarity.

Meanwhile, more than 100 cruise ships with colorful decorations like sails and flower flags carrying tourists traveled in beautiful formation at the venue.

The tourism week is expected to attract around 500,000 tourists to the bay, accounting for eight to ten per cent of the average annual visitors to the province, said local officials.

Ha Long Bay, comprising some 1,600 islands and islets forming a spectacular seascape of limestone pillars, was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994 and is a famous tourist site in Vietnam.

A laser, sound and water performance lasting up to 90 minutes will be at the heart of the annual Ha Long Carnival held in the northern province of Quang Ninh from April 29 to May 5.

The provincial authorities have invested a record sum of more than VND138 billion (US$6.57 million) in preparation for the performance, titled Mysterious Ha Long By Night, to be held on Bai Chay Beach on May 2.

The Ha Long Sparkling with Colours street festival will hit the town on May 1, along with a series of cultural events including a poetry – music show, a competition for MCs, a culinary festival, a tennis tournament, a bonsai exhibition and a cock fighting festival.

“The carnival is even more important than usual, with the vote for Ha Long as one of the New7Wonders of Nature at its peak,” said Ha Quang Long, director of the Quang Ninh Culture, Sports and Tourism Department.

The local authorities have prepared facilities for tourists to vote for Ha Long during the week by telephone. Tourists can dial +2 392 201 055; +1 869 760 5990; +1 649 339 8080 and +44 758 900 1290. After hearing the introduction, tourists can press 7712 to vote for Ha Long Bay.

The bay is currently second in the polling behind South Korea’s Jeju Island. In total, there are 28 finalists on the New7Wonders list.

The New Open World Corporation will end voting and announce the seven new wonders on November 11 this year.

The tourism week is expected to attract around 500,000 tourists to the bay, accounting for eight to ten per cent of the average annual visitors to the province.

Honor the beauty of Ha Long Bay

After the third round of voting, dating back from August, 2007, Ha Long Bay now one of the 28 finalists in the vote launched by New Open World. The result of the voting is expected to be made public on November 11.

At meeting to promote Ha Long Bay’s image and encourage people to vote for it on February 2011, the Vice Chairwoman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee Nhữ Thị Hồng Liên affirmed the determination to accumulate 60 million votes to become one of the new seven wonders of the world.

Quang Ninh authority has continuously made an effort to spread information and promote the image of Ha Long Bay both in and outside of the country.

Thus, Ha Long – Quang Ninh tourism week 2011, slated for April 28 to May 1, is expected to be the important and decisive event that lures more people to vote for Ha Long Bay.

All of the events during the tourism week are designed with the aim to promote Quang Ninh tourism and vote for Ha Long Bay to become one of new seven natural wonders of the world.

It is expected that about 500 thousand visitors will visit Ha Long city during the tourism week, accounting for 8-10 percent of the total number of tourists to Quang Ninh within a year.

The highlight of the tourism week, Ha Long Carnival Festival entitled “Colorful Ha Long Bay” will consist of three parts of opening ceremony, carnival parade and masquerade festival. The festival is scheduled to begin on 8.00 pm on May 1st at Bai Chay Tourism Area (Ha Long city).

Notably, this year’s Ha Long Carnival Festival will also contain lots of performances given by various ethnic minority groups across the province.

Especially, visitors and locals will have a chance to enjoy a 90-minute high-tech lighting show entitled “Ha Long by night” which is showcased for the first time in Ha Long Carnival during the opening ceremony. Besides, the Government has recently approved the 15-minute fireworks shows at Ha Long Carnival 2011.

Therefore, Ha Long Carnival 2011 is expected to be a special celebration of light which will leave locals and visitors with strong and unforgettable impression.
