A laser, sound and water performance lasting up to 90 minutes will be at the heart of the annual Ha Long Carnival held in the northern province of Quang Ninh from April 29 to May 5.

The provincial authorities have invested a record sum of more than VND138 billion (US$6.57 million) in preparation for the performance, titled Mysterious Ha Long By Night, to be held on Bai Chay Beach on May 2.
The Ha Long Sparkling with Colours street festival will hit the town on May 1, along with a series of cultural events including a poetry – music show, a competition for MCs, a culinary festival, a tennis tournament, a bonsai exhibition and a cock fighting festival.
“The carnival is even more important than usual, with the vote for Ha Long as one of the New7Wonders of Nature at its peak,” said Ha Quang Long, director of the Quang Ninh Culture, Sports and Tourism Department.
The local authorities have prepared facilities for tourists to vote for Ha Long during the week by telephone. Tourists can dial +2 392 201 055; +1 869 760 5990; +1 649 339 8080 and +44 758 900 1290. After hearing the introduction, tourists can press 7712 to vote for Ha Long Bay.
The bay is currently second in the polling behind South Korea’s Jeju Island. In total, there are 28 finalists on the New7Wonders list.
The New Open World Corporation will end voting and announce the seven new wonders on November 11 this year.
The tourism week is expected to attract around 500,000 tourists to the bay, accounting for eight to ten per cent of the average annual visitors to the province.

After the third round of voting, dating back from August, 2007, Ha Long Bay now one of the 28 finalists in the vote launched by New Open World. The result of the voting is expected to be made public on November 11.
At meeting to promote Ha Long Bay’s image and encourage people to vote for it on February 2011, the Vice Chairwoman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee Nhữ Thị Hồng Liên affirmed the determination to accumulate 60 million votes to become one of the new seven wonders of the world.
Quang Ninh authority has continuously made an effort to spread information and promote the image of Ha Long Bay both in and outside of the country.
Thus, Ha Long – Quang Ninh tourism week 2011, slated for April 28 to May 1, is expected to be the important and decisive event that lures more people to vote for Ha Long Bay.
All of the events during the tourism week are designed with the aim to promote Quang Ninh tourism and vote for Ha Long Bay to become one of new seven natural wonders of the world.
It is expected that about 500 thousand visitors will visit Ha Long city during the tourism week, accounting for 8-10 percent of the total number of tourists to Quang Ninh within a year.

As scheduled, Ha Long – Quang Ninh Tourism Week 2011 includes 16 main activities such as the seminar on voting campaign for Ha Long Bay to become one of the seven natural wonders of the world, contest of the best MC on the Bay, music and poetry night on Ha Long, gastronomy festival, international beach volleyball final round, Open Quang Ninh Tennis Tournament, classical music concert in the Đầu Gỗ Grotto and Quang Ninh international trade fair, etc
The highlight of the tourism week, Ha Long Carnival Festival entitled “Colorful Ha Long Bay” will consist of three parts of opening ceremony, carnival parade and masquerade festival. The festival is scheduled to begin on 8.00 pm on May 1st at Bai Chay Tourism Area (Ha Long city).
Notably, this year’s Ha Long Carnival Festival will also contain lots of performances given by various ethnic minority groups across the province.
Especially, visitors and locals will have a chance to enjoy a 90-minute high-tech lighting show entitled “Ha Long by night” which is showcased for the first time in Ha Long Carnival during the opening ceremony. Besides, the Government has recently approved the 15-minute fireworks shows at Ha Long Carnival 2011.
Therefore, Ha Long Carnival 2011 is expected to be a special celebration of light which will leave locals and visitors with strong and unforgettable impression.

The Government has approved the fireworks shows at Hạ Long Carnival 2011, according to the Official Dispatch No. 2343/VPVP-KGVX dated April 15, 2011 by the Government Office of Việt Nam.

The Hạ Long Carnival 2011, scheduled to take place in the evening of May 1, is the highlight of the Hạ Long Tourism Week 2011 which is slated for April 29- May 2 in Hạ Long city and other districts and cities across the province.
Other key activities of the Tourism Week will include the seminar on voting campaign for Hạ Long Bay to become one of the seven natural wonders of the world, contest of the best MC on the Bay, music and poetry night on Hạ Long, gastronomy festival, international beach volleyball final round, Open Quảng Ninh Tennis Tournament, classical music concert in the Đầu Gỗ Grotto and Quảng Ninh international trade fair, etc.
Particularly, locals and visitors will have a good chance to enjoy amazing light art performances for the first time in Việt Nam at a special area which will be officially opened within the week of festival.
Having been organized since 1998 and already become a special tourist product which lures the large participation of local people, domestic and international visitors.
In the Hạ Long Tourism Festival 2010, Quảng Ninh Province received 500,000 tourists with 68,000 long-stay visitors, of whom 25 per cent were foreigners.

The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism launched a campaign on April 9 to promote tourism and voting for Ha Long Bay as a natural wonder of the world.

More than 120 travel agents and three-five star hotels Ho Chi Minh City joined the campaign.
The VNAT has sent two million brochures promoting Ha Long Bay in Vietnamese, English, French, Russian and Chinese to travel agents, tourism sites, embassies, international organizations in Vietnam and domestic and foreign airline agents.
According to the New Open World, the voting will end on October 31, 2011 and the seven chosen natural wonders of the world will be announced on November 11, 2011.

Especially, the high-tech and unique light art performance which is held for the first time in the Ha Long – Quang Ninh Tourism Week with the theme “Miraculous Ha Long by night” and last about 90 minutes will bring surprises to visitors.
The Ha Long Carnival which will be held at 8:00pm on May 1 at the Bai Chay Tourist Area will be the highlight of the tourism week, including three parts: opening ceremony, art performances on stage, carnival parade and masquerade festival. Notably, this year the Ha Long Carnival is expected to show more cultural features of each locality in the province such as the tutelary god procession of Tra Co Communal House in Mong Cai City and Tien Cong (the founding fathers) procession of Yen Hung District…

The Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee recently requested the inspection team to continue to check all the cruise boats operating on Ha Long Bay. The inspection, which will take place from April 1-15, will focus on technical standards and registration, the quality of services, crew and staff, and compliance with regulations on fire prevention, environmental protection, and safety equipments.

The delegation, headed by the Director of the Quang Ninh provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, includes representatives from the police force, the Ha Long Bay Management Board, and the Ha Long municipal People’s Committee. The delegation was established on February 18, 2011.
The inspection results will have been reported to the provincial People’s Committee by April 20.
In February, 2011, this inspection team inspected 135 tourist ships for overnight stays on Ha Long Bay. The inspectors found all the ships met the required regulations of staff and sailors’ qualifications and the necessary permits for over-night stay.
However, 37 ships were found with unsafe water partitions and 41 ships were found with inadequate fire fighting and pumping equipment. The inspectors have asked the ships’ owners to fix all technical faults before they return for another re-inspection.

The five-star cruise liner SuperStar Aquarius with 2,200 foreign tourists and crew aboard docked at the world’s natural heritage, Ha Long Bay, in the northern province of Quang Ninh on April 3.

The visitors, mostly from China, were scheduled to tour around the Bay, drop by the Vung Vieng fishing village to get insight into the local fishermen’s life, and get involved in other artistic activities.
According to the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Quang Ninh welcomed about 2 million visitors in the first quarter of this year, including over 600,000 foreign visitors, and earned VND913 billion in revenues, a year-on-year increase of 6 percent.

An exhibition highlighting Halong bay- the world heritage opened at the Vietnamese Culture Centre in France on March 31, according to the Ministry of Culture Sports and Tourism.

A photo exhibition entitled “Halong Bay, World Natural Heritage site” is jointly held by the Fine Art, Photography and Exhibition Department (under Ministry of Culture Sports and Tourism) and the Vietnamese Cultural Centre in France.
Fifty photos on display feature the beauty of Halong Bay, a world natural heritage site which has been recognized twice by UNESCO as a heritage of mankind.
Taken by both professional and amateur photographers, the photos portray the mystical beauty of Halong Bay through various angles and captured moments.
The exhibition attracted great attention from the Vietnamese community in France and French friends. It will run until April 30.
This event is held as part of campaign to vote for Hạ Long Bay as world natural wonder. Halong Bay is now one of 28 finalists in the vote launched by New Open World. In order to be included in the top seven, the country’s famous landscape must collect over 60 million votes, including a substantial number from foreigners.
Therefore, Vietnam has continuously made an effort to spread information and promote the image of Ha Long Bay both in and outside of the country. The result of the voting is expected to be made public on November 11.

The Week of Ha Long Tourism 2011 will be the biggest ever, with a series offestivities in support of the superb bay’s bid for the New7Wonders title this year.
The event, scheduled to take place at the Ha Long tourist site in Quang Ninh province from April 28-May 1, will cover a large range of festivities, from culture and arts, including a poetry night, to sports such as an international beach volleyball final round, culinary arts and an international trade fair.
In the spotlight will be the Ha Long carnival festival, which will entertain audiences with art performances, a parade and a public street party on the night of May 1 at the Bai Chay tourist site, with everything on a magnificent scale, said organisers.
The carnival has been designed to revive local cultural traditions such as the rituals of the Royal Citadel God procession at the famous Tra Co communal house in the northernmost township of Mong Cai and the Creator procession in the Yen Hung district.
The organising board has also invited art troupes from China.
2011 is the decisive year for Ha Long in its bid for the New Wonder of Nature, which was launched by the New Open World organisation more than 10 years ago through the www.natural7wonders.com website.
Ha Long bay has already been recognised as a World Natural Heritage site by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
